Turn your Android phone into a pocket metal detector. Gold Finder uses your phone's built-in magnetic sensor (magnetometer) to measure the magnetic field (EMF) around you and alert you the moment metal is near — no extra hardware required.
Lost your keys, a coin, or a piece of jewellery? Trying to find a stud, nail or pipe before you drill? Point your phone, move it slowly, and watch the gold dial climb as metal gets closer.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Metal Detector — sweep for metal objects and get a live microtesla (µT) reading
- Gold Finder — tuned for iron, steel and other ferromagnetic metals
- Stud & Pipe Finder — locate metal studs, nails and pipes hidden inside walls
- EMF Meter — read the raw magnetic field strength in real time
- Find log — save every hit with its strength so you can come back to it
HOW IT WORKS
Your phone's magnetometer senses changes in the magnetic field. When metal comes near, the field value rises — the meter jumps, and sound and vibration alerts let you know. Adjust the sensitivity to make the detector react sooner or filter out noise.
TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
- Move the phone slowly and steadily across the surface
- Remove any magnetic case or cover before scanning
- Keep away from TVs, speakers, PCs and other electronics, which affect readings
- Re-calibrate if the baseline drifts
IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ
This app relies entirely on your device's magnetic sensor, so results depend on your phone's hardware. It works best with ferromagnetic materials such as iron, steel and nickel, and is weak or ineffective with non-ferromagnetic metals like pure aluminium, copper or brass. Effective range is only a few centimetres — this is a handy everyday helper and a fun tool for exploring, not a professional treasure-hunting detector. A device without a magnetometer cannot detect metal.
